Are you into insects?

At UKEIA we believe that farmed insect protein will make an essential contribution to existing agricultural and food chain structures.

We envisage a future where insects take their natural place in circular farming, and are added to our plates as a sustainable alternative protein option. And we want to work with both academia and industry to ensure that the UK meets the challenges associated with this exciting new sector in an informed, measured and collaborative way.

It's time for change

We understand concerns around the health and safety of insects, around the viability of insects as a food stuff, the intrinsic knotty issues that come with creating an entirely new supply chain. But we also know that something’s got to change…

It’s becoming pretty apparent that we have a climate crisis on our hands. On top of that we’ll have 10 billion hungry neighbours by 2050 and our current food system is already contributing about one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions.

The insect revolution

Happily, farmed insect protein offers great potential for farmers—both new and traditional—the feed sector (including domestic animals, wild birds, aquaculture, fishing, and non-ruminants), and human consumption, whether as a whole food, ingredient, supplement, or oil.

Just like any newly emerging and exciting market, navigating the world of entomophagy as a UK business can be challenging. We want to welcome you to a community of like-minded edible insect enthusiasts who are ready to support and learn from each other.

UKEIA’s deep connections to research and regulatory organisations is key to smoothing the path for new entrants and we're proud to contribute to that collective effort.
