Sorry this Expression Of Interest (EOI) call has closed for this year
Farmed insect protein research
We’re sorry but this year’s call for Expressions of Interest for farmed insect protein research is now closed, but don’t worry, this will be an annual process! If you have an idea for research or a collaboration that you think we’d like to know about, and can’t wait until September 2025, we’re always happy to hear from you at any time – just drop us a line at info@ukeia.co.uk
Be the first to hear about all of our farmed insect protein news by joining our mailing list below. We’ll keep you posted with more details about this year’s projects, with any successful collaborations being announced at Nest 1.0 – our farmed insect protein conference being held in Nottingham on 24-25 April 2025.

Rationale
The rapid growth of the farmed insect protein industry necessitates robust food production frameworks to ensure the health and well-being of consumers. Current regulations and research surrounding the safety of insect production and consumption are still in their infancy, especially compared to traditional protein sources.
To safeguard public health, it is imperative that the industry proactively addresses food safety challenges, including pathogen control, contamination risks, and the establishment of standardised production processes, while at the same time, making as much use as possible of substrates and methods that will reduce production costs and optimise the environmental impact.
We are seeking research proposals that directly address these challenges and ensure the long-term viability of insect-based foods in the domestic and global market.
